American Basin Cascade

I captured this a month ago in American Basin in SW Colorado. I had taken my oldest granddaughter there for hiking, camping and some photography. She is 13 and has always enjoyed photography and the outdoors, so it was fun to take her to American Basin which to me is in the Top 10 of the most beautiful places in the world.

Besides the awesome wildflowers on display at the end of July and beginning of August, it has several waterfalls, and quite a few creeks that work their way down from higher elevations on their way down to lower ground. This is over 12,000 feet here, and you can feel it. That's why it's nice to stay more then just a day, so your body can acclimate to the altitude a bit.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

I like the lush look along the stream and the little cascades. I almost wish I could look a little farther up the stream.

Perfect age to get your granddaughter started with photography. I was 13 years old when my father handed me his old Minolta twin lens reflex and 1963 turned out to a good year for spring blooms in the desert around Phoenix :)

I do have an image looking further upstream, I will have to go back and look at it. I preferred the more intimate feel of this one, but let me go back and check the wider view.

13 is a great number and year. Spring Blooms in the desert is a great way to start.

Thanks Trent. It is fun to take grandkids to cool places like this. Watching and listening to them experience it is priceless.
