A trip to highland Scotland

Last. week we spent 4 days in the highlands. We almost cancelled the trip as the forecast looked like 4 days of rain/ sleet/ snow but in the end we wrapped up well and went. I am starting with a series of high key landscapes taken in the Cairngorm mountains. There are 4 peaks above 4,000 ft which may be small by most standards but the high plateau is semi tundra and desolate. The mountains here are rounded with far fewer cliffs and rock outcrops than the mountains of the North West.
The first 2 images are in full colour

The rest are mono

The weather up here can be challenging on one night wind gusts hit 100mph. Since we returned one night saw average wind speeds of 75mph and a gust of 107mph, these were not classed as storms just Spring weather.
This Easter weekend we do have storm moving in with strong winds and heavy snow forecast, that could be exciting but I am not about to travel up to find out.
The images may look as though They are heavily processed but little has been done. The colour versions I have set the colour temperature so that the snow appears white and little else has been done. I would have liked more snow to give smooth snow fields but the vegetation here is 2 ft high heather and therefore 3 ft of snow is needed for that lovely smooth look.
More to come Ken

The mountains might not be all that high but Scotland makes up for it with the high latitude. I have to echo Trent's comment about how little difference there is between the color images and the mono ones that follow. Definitely looks to be on the cool side and that's without the wind chill.
