A Simple Sunset

I went to a local nature preserve area by my daughters house in Northern Colorado to run with my overnight backpack filled with 30 lbs of weight as I start to prepare for real backpacking in another week or two. When I got there, it was lightly raining, but the wind was anything but light. It felt like about 40mph and it was blowing the rain sideways. So I waited as it got closer to sunset before running. I looked out the window of my truck and saw sunset colors already painting the clouds!

I now had extra motivation to run and get from the parking lot to a more photogenic area. :)

This was it with one of the smaller trails at the nature preserve. I stopped, took a half dozen shots and then ran to the lake to shoot some with it reflecting in the choppy water. By then the colors were fading, and I slung the camera over my shoulder and went back to running.

It felt like a simple sunset, but one that I was happy to see.

Maybe simple but a really nice color show with the evening clouds.

Doing my best to remember what clouds look like. Mid summer up here can get a bit boring with naked skies.

Thanks Alan! It's daily afternoon thunderstorms here, so you need to come to Colorado!

Really nice, Jim. Where are you going backpacking?
Thanks Monika.

I am not sure yet. I am heading out on Sunday for a few days with my oldest granddaughter up at American Basin. Then with the oldest grandson up by Independence Pass, Tincup, etc for a few days. Then when I drop my grandson I will have 5 days left to split between Ice Lakes, Blue Lakes and Blaine Basin. I was initially going to have 10 days to split up the backpacking, so I could have 1 rest day between each trip. So I need to probably decide on which two I can do in the 5 days. I have been to all 3 places.
