A night of rain

We were lucky the heavy rain (1ft in 24 hours) fell 30 miles to the SW of us. We have little or no flooding but the centre of the Lake District has roads flooded, cars stuck in floods, a few houses flooded but no towns badly effected and no fatalities. Another 4 days of heavy rain forecast and all it takes is a tiny change in wind direction and our heavy bursts interspersed with light rain could turn into 96hours of downpour. We live up a hill so, no matter what, we will be in no danger. I went out to see what our local small river looked like and it is higher than normal but not dangerously so. As you can see Autumn colour is just starting. Shot at ISO 320, f11, 1/4s it may not be raining heavily but it is dark as this is noon. Ken

Nice to live on high ground :) I like the shot with the early fall colors and the leaves along the banks. I far and away prefer this kind of lighting over direct sunlight.

As do I Alan, I seldom photograph moving water with direct sunlight. Thinking of the sunny 16 rule ie f16 and the shutter speed is the reciprocal of ISO should make it, with f11, 1/640s. No filters used and ss of 1/4s mkes the light approx 7.5 stops less than sunny 16 predicts. Ken

Interesting rule - I will play with that next time I am out.

Very nice, the fall color on the dark rocks really pops and makes a great "frame" for the water. It looks like the flow is going down into a hole!

I missed this one somehow, I am glad I scrolled down and saw it. That’s a really nice stream you have going. It’s great to see the beginning of fall.
