This place is fairly well preserved - looks like a fun area to visit.

Hi Alan They started a long term restoration project for St Elmo in the 1980s that is still in progress. There are over 40 structures in the city in different states of restoration. The church in the third image burn down along with the building on each side of the church. The church has been rebuilt and restored to it's original condition inside. There are posters inside the church that detail the history of the church and some of the history of St Elmo.
This is really great! It's cool to see this ghost town. And it's great that so many buildings still exist.
I was thinking this might make for a cool area to go along with a Milky Way, but looking at your photos it looks like there are lot's of trees too, and at night if buildings can't be composed to where the sky surrounds them instead of trees, the buildings just end up blending into the trees during the dark of the night as the shadows get deep.
But with that said, I still want to visit it with the grandkids when I get back.

There are about 40 building still standing in St Elmo and many on the main street have been restored. It is a great place to take your grandkids. I brought my kid up here about 48 years ago before the restoration was stated and they still talk about the 'ghost' town in the hills!
