    Snowy sunrise

Yesterday morning, I hiked up a nearby mountain to the summit. WInter storm Izzy made quite an impression with snow, sleet, freezing rain, and more snow (our road is still impassable!). There were high winds, it was about 2 degrees with the windchill, and there was about a foot of snow on the...

    Mushroom Rock sunrise

This morning's sunrise from "Mushroom Rock" in Highlands, NC. I was pretty happy I got up and hiked to this location today.... Horizontal or vertical? www.instagram.com/stephen_ozcomert

    Crabtree Falls, NC

Visited this beauty for the first time recently. Leaves were at or near peak and I was one happy camper. Took a million images, but here is one I liked. Thx for looking! And don't worry, I have a ton more waterfall images for waterfall Wednesday, lol.

    Blue Ridge Afterglow

This is from one of my favorite overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The sun had gone behind the clouds and the wind had picked up blowing the flowers in the foreground around. I liked the droplets on the flowers and the colors in the sky and just really wanted to see if this scene would make a...

    Bartram Trail sunset

This is from a favorite, though little known, sunset spot in North Carolina off the Bartram Trail at Jones Gap. I have shot sunset here a number of times, but have never seen anyone else shooting sunset from this spot. Anyway, this sunset was not a stunner in person, but for some reason, I was...

    Lake Glenville Sunset

Went yesterday to a new-to-me location overlooking Lake Glenville, A/K/A Thorpe Reservoir in North Carolina. Lake Glenville, a man-made lake (you can see the dam on the right side of the image) is the highest lake in altitude (of its size) east of the Mississippi. It is ringed by parts of the...

    Woolyback Sunset

From a recent sunset on the Blue Ridge Parkway (Woolyback overlook) that I liked and thought might be worthy of sharing here. Comments/criticisms welcome as always. www.instagram.com/stephen_ozcomert

    Tree in Fog

This was an experiment for me. Not usually one to try a minimalist composition, but I liked the atmosphere that presented itself. Comments and criticisms welcome. I l www.instagram.com/stephen_ozcomert

    Jones Knob sunset

This is an older pic that I stumbled across when looking for something with a bit of color to post on Instagram. The image was taken in 2018 but I had never developed it. I liked the light and let me know what you think. Happy for comments or criticisms. I am not happy with the bottom of the...

    Sunrise from Whiteside Mountain

I love taking pictures OF Whiteside Mountain as it is a beautiful mountain. However, recently I decided to hike up to near the top of Whiteside to see the sunrise from there. I was happy I went even if the color was not hugely dramatic. The hike was a bit tricky as there is a lot of water...

    Wild light at sunrise

Got a gentle reminder from Ben that I have been MIA around here. Sorry bout that. Here is one from the other day--two mornings ago. I got up for the sunrise and hiked to my favorite nearby location despite high winds and cold temps (about 5 degrees F. with the wind chill). I had hopes for...

    Waterrock Knob sunset

Waterrock Knob is one of my favorite overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The "Knob" itself is adjacent to the parking area and is at an elevation of just under 6300 feet. The parking area is at around 5820 feet and adjacent to the parking area is where most set up for pics--with views of...

    Neowise in Western NC

Tried my hand at a few Neowise shots the other morning (early!). Hope you like these. The first image is actually the last one taken and is taken with a GF 110mm lens (86mm full frame equivalent). The second and third images are with the GF 250/4 (nearly 200mm full frame equivalent).

    Wild light at Sunset

Last week was on Sunset Rock and the clouds were pretty thick and rolling through so it was dicey if there would be a sunset at all. Then the sun broke through and started getting filtered by the clouds/fog for some crazy light. Hope you like these.

    More from the BRP

I went back to the same viewpoint for sunset the other night. Still did not get a great sunset, but did again get some nice light to play with before sunset. Thanks for looking and hope you enjoy.

Crepuscular rays on the Blueridge Parkway

Had a bit of fun going to a new location (well, new to me) for sunset. The sunset itself fizzled as the cloud went behind some clouds, but still had fun due to the show of crepuscular rays. Hope you like this location as I have a feeling I will be going back there when I can.

    Lenticular clouds over Shortoff Mountain

Nothing great, but I enjoyed seeing what I think (please correct me) may be lenticular clouds that formed over Shortoff Mountain in the Nantahala National Forest in NC (not to be confused by the mountain of the same name in the Pisgah National Forest). Shortoff was about 4.5-5 miles away when I...

    Mountain sunrise + Edit

Just a quick grab shot yesterday morning just after sunrise with a new lens. The clouds were traveling fast and the light constantly changing. Wish I had framed it a bit differently, but still like the result. Think it would be better cropped from the bottom?

    Sunset after a storm

Was up on a nearby mountain (social distancing). The scene may be familiar as it is one I have posted before. Last night was pretty special for me, however. The weather was bad--heavy winds, and it started thundering and raining when I arrived. The wind was too strong for an umbrella and I...
