Black Canyon Snow

Incredible sunset - goes nicely with the snow.
Thanks Alan! The sunset ended up not being over the canyon for the most part, the best light was to the west and the view to the canyon at that spot is to the east, so I had to do the best I could and improvise a bit with the composition to make the most of the color.

Cool. Looks like good powder too, did you walk far in it? I never made it to The Black for climbing, but would like to visit (to look) next time I'm down that way.

Thanks Jim! There was a lot of fresh snow there it seemed like maybe a foot or so. This was about 1.5 miles in from the Visitor Center where you have to park as the road is blocked off and I had to snow shoe in to this point. Most of the snow you saw dropped the night before. In my other post you can see snow in it but the ground is mostly free from snow as you can see in the lower right of it. https://www.focalworld.com/index.php?threads/alien-clouds-in-black-canyon.7596/ So the majority of the snow in this shot fell the night before.

Lovely image Jim. The play of white snow and intense sky contrasts nicely.

Never been there and should add it to my list.

I never climbed there either, but I have a climbing story you might like:
My maternal Grandfather was the postmaster in Crawford, (11 miles from the N. rim), the closest town to the canyon.
My Grandparents heard some climbers were attempting to climb a wall on the North side of the canyon, and a couple days later that they were near the top. My Grandpa suggested they go out to watch them. They were close enough to hear the conversation as Layton Kor and his partner, who my Grandfather said was a guy named McCarty or something similar, topped out. From what he overheard they had been without food for a day or two. He turned to my Grandma and said, "why don't we feed these guys." My Grandmother agreed. As Kor was packing up his gear, he went over and said, "how would you like to come to my house for the best dinner you ever had? To which Kor responded, "We don't want your grub." My Grandpa said, "Well I wouldn't offer it, if I didn't want you to eat it." Kor hesitated, and thought about it for moment, then gave in. My Grandpa said he's never seen two men eat so much food in his life.:)
