St Mary's lighthouse

Built in the late 19thC on the North East English coast at Whitley Bay. I used long exposures 15-30s to remove the ripples and allow the reflections to show through. Taken on a rising tide and I nearly got very wet but noticed that the sea had almost surrounded me but managed to jump from dry patch to dry patch back to shore. W hilst here I discovered the negative effects of photographing man made objects with wide angle lenses whilst pointing the camera either up or down and now have my camera perfectly level with a shorter focal length and crop the unneeded portion off. Comments welcome Ken

I like the way you worked the light on the lighthouse for these shots. The long exposures accentuated the motion of the clouds and make it look like the skies are radiating out from the lighthouse as well. Interesting effect.

Hey Ken, very cool work here. Lighthouses are very cool, and ones where we can get reflections are even more cool!

My favorite is probably #3, I like those streaking clouds. Then #1 for its reflection, followed by #2 with that cool light.

Yowzer! A great set! Any of the 3 are awesome, but for me, the 1st is my favorite as the lighthouse almost seems to 'glow' and the rest of the image with the cloud motion accentuated by the long exposure treatment, capped off by the reflection you have cleverly recovered from the water, all combine to make this a truly a special capture!
