Very difficult and dangerous to hike too after a very difficult time to get access. This time around it was unauthorized. It was worth it and once in a lifetime experience.

I also found it to be a lot more difficult to shoot because of the volume of lava and heat thats involved. I also notice to be more afraid in this situation of shooting lava because if anything should happen, its to fast for me to out run it.

Interesting conditions to shoot in - I like the images and the shots with your friends shooting is educational.

I walked out to the flow in 1998 I think nothing like this but I can appreciate what you did here. Very well Done

Wow! That first one is really awesome! What a cool channel of lava. And it's great seeing one of your friends in action.

There is for sure risk involved, but for a good portion of our landscape shooting there can be risks, whether it's lightning, avalanches, etc.. In most cases I would think the majority of us would balance our knowledge vs the risk and then make a decision.

Yes, shooting lava for over a decade, I have taken a lot into consideration before getting out there all the time. This one for sure. I agree its a risk and maybe not for many, but some of us would have that gut to get these kinds of images. Trust me, it was not taken lightly and I am for sure would not take anyone out on a tour like this. To much responsibility.

Aloha, Tom! I'm glad that your Achilles seems to have healed up well. Glad to see that you're back in action. I was perfectly happy to be shooting from the air during the eruption.
