Joshua Tree and Trona Pinnacles

Hello everyone, I'm new to the group. I met Jim about a month ago during the last new moon at Joshua Tree National Park and he was kind enough to invite me to join the group. Looking forward to learning and sharing with everyone here. Currently shooting with a Pentax K3ii. Here's a couple of pictures. Scorpion Arch in Joshua Tree. As well as Trona Pinnacles, which is where I'm currently at. I shot sunset and stars last night and this morning escaped to Ridgecrest to beat the heat during the day before heading back out to the Pinnacles again tonight.

Neat set of images to introduce yourself with Brandon. I like the MW shot - that has a nice feel to it.

Interesting skies over the Pinnacles - that place looks hot with a hint of monsoon humidity above. Good luck with sky shots. You might have some interesting atmospherics to work with.

Thanks Alan! I noticed the photo from Trona appears quite a bit different on the focal world website than the image I have in Lightroom. It looks flat on the site. Is that normal? Maybe I did something incorrect in posting....

Hi Brandon - Both shots depict very real life conditions, the first is authentic with the shadows and low light. With the second, I might go vertical with including the big boulder on the right and cropping-off the less interesting left. This would get the viewer closer to the subject, so to speak.
Great leading post!

I can't see any EXIF data but do you know which color space this is processed in (eg. sRGB, Adobe RBG)?

If you process in Adobe RGB and then convert to a jpeg without converting the color space it can lead to a flat looking image. I believe the upload software for this site will always assign sRGB to a jpeg and ignore Adobe RGB.

Hey Brandon,

Welcome to FocalWorld! It was really awesome getting to meet you in Joshua Tree, it was fun to shoot and hangout with you!

Your Scorpious Arch shot is one of the best I have seen from there. I didn’t get a chance to go and shoot it last time, but I sure hope to some time.

You got some neat clouds at Trona, I like Trona, I describe it as Mono Lake without the water.

Glad you joined us!

Jim

Whoops, as to the shots looking flat, make sure you are converting your image when you downsize it for the web to a Color Profile of sRGB.

Welcome! Great Milky Way shot and the Trona shot looks like an alien landscape. I'd agree with the others that if they don't look right you should make sure they've been saved in srgb. Looking forward to seeing more.

Hi Brandon,

You've got a nice continuous line between the right side of the arch and the right side of the milky way.
