A Colorful Evening at Ruby Beach +edit

This shot was taken a while back with a really nice color palette for a sunset at Ruby Beach. I had almost left the beach after watching yet another dull gray marine layer thud when the sun dropped down but then the skies above the marine layer lit up and gave me a neat show for about 20 minutes or so. I have posted some other shots from the same evening but have never really dug into the pile of everything I shot that evening. This is one of the previously overlooked images from that session.

C&C always welcome.

Edit version: Lightened the skies to better balance with the water.

I love it when I wait for it and the post sunset comes through like that. Looks like you used some kind of GND filter (real or digital) to hold back the sky. It seems to also have hit the top of the higher rocks eliminating all detail, which doesn't quite jive with the lower rock which should be similar. I'd work just a touch of shadow recovery there to alleviate that.

Hey Alan,

Yeah, sometimes it's easy to count the sunset out when it comes to marine layers which usually snuff out any possibility of color once the sun goes behind it, but once in a while it surprises us, and it looks like you got a nice pleasant surprise here.

Hey Alan,

A handsome stack and a colorful evening are hard to beat together when the latter is rare in the region. The highlights in the water a bit too bright for my eye with the way you processed the sky.

Thanks for the suggestions. I looked at this image for a while thinking about your comments and finally decided on an approach to some edits. I lightened the skies to pull in a better balance with the water and rocks down in front since they were really the subject in this image for me. I also lightened up the sea stacks a bit towards their tops for more even light.
