Black and White Rhinos

Another goal for my recent trip to Kenya was to be able to see some rhinoceros in the wild. We spent two days at Lake Nakuru national park, which is know to have populations of both black and white rhinos. We saw a pair of white rhinos on our way into the park (pictures from that coming later), but hadn't managed to spot any of the more rare and reclusive black rhinos until the end of our second day. At that point it was raining and as we came around the corner we spotted a black rhino in a field. It turned out that the two white rhinos we'd seen the previous day were also in the area - and they were ready for some mud wrestling. The larger white rhino was able to consistently push the black rhino backwards, and the fight wasn't particularly violent - although with those horns anything could have been possible.

This was my favorite of the confrontation between the two species - at least it shows all of each animal. I've also played with some crops focusing more on the heads but for now I am sticking with this. Any thoughts are welcome.

Kinda hard to tell the difference between the white one and the black one when they are covered in mud like this Quite the difference in size between these two. I like the pose you got with this capture.

As our guide said, "I don't know why they call them black and white - they are both grey"

Blacks are smaller and the mouth shape is different

How interesting Kyle. I like how this captures them both. And yeah, I would have thought that they would be more Black and White. Sometimes it's odd the names animals get in the animal kingdom.
