Well, a week ago there was a really awesome Thunderstorm. One never knows just how strong and how much lightning there will be ahead of time, you just have to be ready. I wasn't totally ready, but pretty close as I watched the ominous clouds rolling in from the West. So it only took me 2 minutes to help my granddaughter who had a lemonade type stand setup on the corner, though she was selling Needoh squishies instead of lemonade.
As soon as I helped her get her things back into the garage, I was off. I drove about 5 minutes from my daughters house in Northern Colorado to the edge of a Farmers field. Quickly setup 3 tripods, 2 for cameras, 1 for an iphone for video, and then I started livestreaming as well on another phone.
I guess I am always a bit of an overachiever.
This image was off my Nikon Z8 and 24-200mm lens. I had the camera set to maintain 2 to 3 second exposures, which wasn't hard since it was sunset and it was getting darker out.
The storm was intense, with hundreds of strikes in about 45 minutes of imaging. There was almost constant flashes of light. I caught about 142 strong strikes on my camera, but there was probably 3x that many striking off camera as there was this large front that was all getting lighting strikes.
So I decided to pick out a random 60 seconds of time, stack the images, in this case there was 8 images, and in Photoshop used the Lighten Blend mode to let the Lightning pass through.
