Orion Widefield

The nights are just starting to get long enough to where it's worth trying to set up a shot in my New Zealand backyard. Last night I had the chance to shoot the Orion Nebula with my astro-modified Canon 600D and Rokinon 135mm lens on a Benro Polaris mount, so I took it. Only shot 100 frames, and did not spend a lot of time framing the shot--I'm sure I'll shoot this again the next time conditions allow.

Very cool James, a fun target indeed.

I do see some odd gradients in this. That's kind of what I noticed when I used my 135mm. I wonder if there is an issue with odd gradients when shooting that wide?

Yeah, there are gradients for sure, probably (possibly) due to ambient light, moonlight etc. I don’t think I’ve noticed such bad gradients when using this lens on moonless nights.

A very cool result with that setup! I am sure framing is a non-trivial part of shooting with that setup for sure. Great job!
