A winter city

Another cold snap, some moisture in the air, very little wind and a beautiful morning left our city bathed in beauty this week. Here are a couple of images.




The open water in the river is caused by warm effluent from a power plant upstream. This is a mixed blessing as it provides open water for ducks and geese but also prevents use of the ice for human activity such as skating and festivals.

That looks like winter indeed - how thick does the fog get from the warm body of water?

This is so cool Trent! They look cold! The clouds really add a great touch.

That's too bad the River doesn't freeze over completely.

Hi Alan.. When it is minus 30 or more there is a lot of fog over the water. It can be quite beautiful. It makes it quite difficult to take sharp pictures of the Commmon Goldeneye ducks as the fog acts as a real filter.
