Borrowdale take 2

2 more images from Thursday in Borrowdale. After I had taken the images of the backlit trees against the dark background I tried to take the view up the valley but by this time I was looking right into the sun but it still gives you an idea what this lovely wooded valley looks like. Just like the PNW this is a temperate rain forest with some commercial planting but mostly broad leafed trees.

As I was passing I couldn't resit this shot of my favourite little copse of birch trees. I should really darken that patch of sunshine middle top as it is pulling my eyes up and out of the image. Ken

Beautiful scenes in both of these Ken. I like the view of the overall topography in the first image and I always enjoy the patch of light view on your favorite little patch of trees in the second image.

There is one major difference between this area and the Pacific NW however - the dominant tree in the forests of the NW are evergreens. Our summers are dry and almost all of the rains fall during the winter months. This results in the evergreens having the advantage that they can grow during the wet season while the deciduous trees are dormant. Broadleaf plants are the quickest to spread into disturbed areas but in the long run evergreens will always out compete them and dominate the landscape.

Alan another difference is rainfall, even our driest months, April and May have 15-16 days a month with rainfall. October is the wettest with rain on 21 days. Ken

Nice set Ken, I think I like the way that patch of trees is lit in the second so that's my favorite.

That's a really great area Ken! I could see spending lots of time roaming around there. I really like #2, and agree a little darkening to the upper right would be good.
