At the suggestion of Michael Liskay, This week's task will be lightning images. I have captured lightning in three different ways: 1) accidently when lightning occurred when I was taking an image: 2) long exposures when there is frequent lightning during the day, or especially at night; 3) using a device to capture lightning (mine is a Lightning Bug). The device senses infrared light which is produced when an ionized path emitting infrared light is established between the cloud and the ground. The infrared light triggers the shutter and the subsequent lightning bolt is captured.

Oh man, I am thinking we need a lightning Meetup so some of you guys can get some lightning photos!

Doug, I am still driving, just entered Minnesota, I will see if I can add some tonight.

Hi, I ran into a bit of an issue trying to find some files as I need to reorganize last years and this years photos. Anyways, This is from last year and what had got me into wanting to photograph more lightening!
The story behind this was before this storm I was photographing the sunset. It was a moody sunset and as soon as the color was gone I packed up to head out.As I was doing this the storm rolled in and I had to pull over! I used my shutter remote to capture these two shots. It was very difficult and then again maybe I wasn't doing it right. Either way about three months latter I bought a lightning trigger. Seen in the next two photo... and now I LOVE photographing monsoon!
