Cape Horn Sunrise

Neat one Alan, I love the grassy area amongst the forest.
Thanks Ben - that grassy area is pastureland for some farms down on those flats.

This is nice!
Thanks Dan.

Beautiful Alan very calming.
Thanks Dean.

Nice viewpoint to catch the sunrise.
Thanks Jameel - it's surprisingly hit and miss for sunrise opportunities with a strong tilt towards miss. I used to scamper out to this overlook a lot and have very few worthwhile results. An oblique sun angle seems to work best.

I like that overlook. A nice capture Alan.
Thanks Jim - this is an easy overlook for me to hit on the Washington side of the Columbia. A great place for fall shots when you catch it right.

Such wonderful elements. Great capture.

Bart
Thanks Bart.

Beautiful!
Thanks Alisa.

Wow, fabulous scene you captured here.
Thanks Amy.

This is a rather minuscule and unmarked turnout with room for barely 3-4 cars and only accessible for cars heading east on WA14 but it does have a magnificent view of the Gorge. In spite of the great view and me stopping there almost every time I drive up the Gorge on WA14 I have relatively few worthwhile images from that place.

I tried working with TPE to ascertain when I could get a sunrise with the rising orb right up the river but the result is nice sky colors right before the sun peeks out and blinding light once it does. Either way the foreground is pitch black and at least 4-5 stops beyond recovery. Your camera won't be the problem - your eyes can't make out details in front of you either with the sun directly to the east.
