Waterrock Knob sunset

Waterrock Knob is one of my favorite overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The "Knob" itself is adjacent to the parking area and is at an elevation of just under 6300 feet. The parking area is at around 5820 feet and adjacent to the parking area is where most set up for pics--with views of sunset in one direction and sunrise in the other. I have been there a number of times and seen pretty sun rays, but never really got any color at sunset. On Tuesday, I finally saw some color. Before sunset there were some nice crepuscular rays too. I hope you like these. Perhaps this is too many photos for one post. Let me know if that is the case. I just thought the light changed enough to make it interesting to share the sequence but I know some dislike more than a couple of images.

I love the layering of the ridge tops gazing out over the view from this place. The color show as the sun sets takes it to another level. That said I really like the sun rays and layering in the first image even without the dramatic colors of the last one.

Awesome work here. I sure enjoy the sequence of the sunset, and I am glad you got the payoff with the great sunset colors.

Your #1 shot is worthy of its own thread, actually each of these is so good they could be showcased in their own thread. But they also work well as a series.

So it’s hard to pick favorites, but I would go #2, 3, 1 and then 4.
