Archangel Autumn

Here are a few compositions of Archangel Falls near the Subway in Zion National Park. I was definitely looking forward to shooting this with some autumn colors so I stopped here both coming and going. The first two are landscape and portrait optios of the more classic view. The last is an attempt at something a little different to pick up some more color along the creek.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Nice falls - with all of the angles/camera orientations you posted. The last one keeps my attention a bit longer with the more intimate view of the falls and the wider perspective on the trees behind. The inclusion of the red foliage behind in the last one is pretty nice too.

Falls in the shade like this can often take on a bluish tint and if these were my images I would try to warm that up a bit by reducing the luminance and saturation for blue.

Hey Kyle,

Super cool looking. I know I love to spend time working that area too. I think your third is the strongest, nice job on coming up with something different. I think I would like a combination between #1 and 2. I like the zig zag pattern of the water cascading down in #1, but I like tighter view of the fall colors above the water in #2.

I do like the cascade captured in the third, with the strong shadows, but compositionally the first has balance and is over all a better image, imho.

Lovely shots, Kyle. My preference is for the 1st.....the cascades don't feel cut off in that one, to my eyes anyway. :)
Beautiful colors. I do agree with Alan about the blue tint in the 'white' water.

Thanks Alan - I like leaving my water a touch on the blue side since that tends to make it seem crisp and fresh rather than hot and muddy. I appreciate the comments that I left it too blue. I've backed off and agree it looks better.

These are all nice, but the last is also my favorite.
Thanks Ben - it was fun playing with that composition too!

Thanks Jim, you described my dilemma with first two pretty well. The third was definitely an attempt to bring in more color, at the expense of getting more of the canyon wall.

Thanks Zeph - I definitely prefer it to the second.

Thanks Barry, I've updated the first two below backing off of the blue some.

Love that spot; love those images. Each of them beautiful in the own right. And the update is even more wonderful.

Great job.
