Thanks Alan. It does resemble the Cliff Dwellers area to me also. One of these days I hope to make it to Casa Blanca which is also nearby!

This red rock area is just across from Abiquiu Lake in Northern New Mexico. A fine place to watch the clouds drift by on a September day.

If only those instagrammers would confine their "work" to this one rock, then move on, mission accomplished. I think the artist(s) chose this rock because it has a pullout right in front of it, so many people stop here for a photo. It does attract attention from all passers by.

Thanks guys! I should add that if you go there be warned - the hoodoos are on a hill which is much steeper than it appears in this image. It was very awkward to work them at close range even with a tripod because of the steep hill and the soft volcanic sand underfoot. Be careful!

Thanks Alan. It was 435 seconds of exposure. I have never seen clouds that just refused to move as these did. The scene appeared much darker than it shows here, as early as it was. Yes, USFS yearly passes will work. There were no passes on sale - just a placard with a QR code to scan and pay...

I have never seen that much green in Canyonlands! An infrared image from then would have been epic!

I have to disagree with Alan about the clouds - they are blown out and lacking detail here. Maybe you can recover them in post if you shot RAW. These are good conditions for a 720 conversion, love the black sky!
