Right place, right time in Death Valley

Salt and Fire by Kurt Lawson, on Flickr Sunday night's sunset was crazy. I thought it might be a good one and scouted out locations with water to shoot. I ended up chasing this band of clouds as they slowly drifted south before stopping at these brine pools and watching the entire show from...

    Star Trails Over Yosemite Falls

Entire scene stacked with all 14 images, but the grass blacked out on two of the layers (just painted the grass to pure black) because they were super illuminated by passing bicycle headlamps, keeping as much of the other water reflection as possible. Full spec is 14 x 5 minutes, f4.0 wide...

    Star Trails Over Yosemite Falls

I think the answer to that was to be there a week or two earlier when the water level was higher above the grass. I'm not sure if it has gone down or up in the month since as waterfall flow should be reaching its peak soon. Probably higher now after rain over the weekend.

    Star Trails Over Yosemite Falls

On a windless spring night in Yosemite Valley lit by half a moon, I sat on the boardwalk in Cook’s Meadow in the dark and just listened to the roar of the falls and the symphony of frogs inhabiting the flood waters around me. Aside from a few people that passed by on foot and on bike very...

    Superbloom at Night

I very intentionally composed this view without the full face in the shot. The sunrise pic was the sunrise after this night.

    Superbloom at Night

Superbloom at Night by Kurt Lawson, on Flickr The forecast was for a "mostly cloudy" night. After discovering this location, I was trying to figure out how I could sneak away during the work week when the forecast became clear in order to capture a night image here. But, as I looked up at the...

    Watched Sunrise

Thank you all! Suffice to say I had a great time exploring Carrizo Plains this year. I found this scene and it took my breath away. And the stone face was watching me all night and all morning.

    Watched Sunrise

Thanks Jim I'm pretty sure those are patches of phacelia. All of the lupines up there were of the bush type and had some space between one another like the ones in the foreground. There were some patches of baby blue eye flowers too but nowhere near as large as the phacelia that alternated...

    Watched Sunrise

Watched Sunrise Have you ever had the feeling you were being watched? At sunrise high up in the Temblor Range of mountains in the California Desert, a stone face watched over me as I watched over the spectacular scene among the vibrant blooming slopes of these young mountains. In the morning...
