Love the narrative......and the beautiful pictures.

Portraits of flowers seem to be in style here right now. This is the first bud on a new rose bush we planted last year. It is not a cutting....I have an non-reflecting black board I place behind flowers in the garden -- the result is somewhat like Alan's recent photos here. Here's one other...

This is not familiar to me -- a great name for a spectacular flower -- and the lighting and photography are superb!

It's a great event, and you have some really good photos that capture the spectacle!

Great detail -- at the long end of the zoom range too.

Thank you for your comments. The first photo (Rome) is my favorite of this set -- it brings back the quiet mood of the streets before the crowds are out and about each day. I thought the street sweeper was a lucky catch.

This looks great! The warm "glow" in the center is beautiful on my monitor.

Good news! On my calibrated desktop monitor, the reds are much better. I should have looked there before judging from the laptop display. It's unfortunate that image quality varies so much with different devices.

A very nice closeup but the reds do appear blown out. I've noticed that often with reds online and I've never been sure whether it's due to sensor "delta C" or a browser color management problem....or something else. Reviews of many consumer cameras note that oversaturation by 10% or so is common.

Striking colors and it looks like a perfect specimen. Worth the trouble to uncover it.

I'll offer 2 more of our backyard visitors. We're waiting for the first arrival of these beauties this year. Not so sure we want these visitors. Darrell
