Here is where I took this in color. I had to expand the dr considerably, then I added some saturation and decided that there is not a lot of color that is interesting. So I made B&W conversion which I will use as my entry.

This is a really interesting image that Amy has been kind enough to let us use for Let's Play. I will work on my version later.

I probably won't get to my version until late Sunday night or Monday. I am heading up to Santa Barbara early in the morning.

I totally forgot there was a recurring editing challenge, happy to have stumbled back upon it.

Spent way too many hours on this image and must have gone a dozen different directions in my attempts at what felt like "make something out of nothing". I tried to bring out the colors in a more traditional approach, played with black and white, stewed on sepia, and finally settled on going for a dark and moody color version. The guidelines didn't say anything about compositing so hopefully not too many people mind that I replaced the clouds with a slightly more dramatic version from my library.

I know exactly what you mean about too many hours. Wasn't a great image to start with, but I like the theme and just hoped someone could pull something out of it. I like the moodiness you put in it. When I took this shot I was traveling somewhere and just pulled over to snap it, unfortunately not the safest place to do so and just did take the time to concentrate on the task at hand.

It's perfect for a challenge like this though, I did things editing this image I've only rarely done in the past and even had to go back to an old YouTube tutorial I'd bookmarked a few years ago for one piece of it. It was fun, quite a challenge, and stretched my editing skills along with forcing me to think in a different creative vein than I normally do. :)

Great response to this image.

As usual. Alan keeps a photo realistic approach and takes it to its peak in that vein.

Amy, the owner has found some inspiration which shows here very well as a dramatic B&W.

Darcy has weighed in with a midway B&W between mine and Amy's. Always a pleasure to have Darcy here.

And J.M has put his thinking cap on and produced a very different but believable look.

Stretching the envelope is what this is all about, thanks to all participants so far and looking forward to more.

Super cool effort John, we don’t have any rules as to any limits on the processing, so I think Ben would agree, keep the creative juices going. It’s awesome to see someone having fun and learning with Let’s Play, it’s what it is all about.

Jameel, I really like what you came up with, I have gotten a few ideas from yours too.

My clam chowder is about to come here in Pismo Beach so I will stew on all of these great edits to see what I will incorporate in mine when I edit it tonight. :)

Here is mine. I separated the sky from the ground as usual, the ground layer I removed the magenta from the shadows and also made sure the layer of low clouds was actually white removing the color cast. The color was still a little off in the ground layer, I tried the Auto-Color in Photoshop, I have found just every so often, maybe 1 in a 100 times, the Auto-Color does auto correct nicely and add some nice contrast to a scene.
