The Phantom

In this winter season, la Nina seems to have a profound influence on the West Coast of Canada. The snow conditions are already pretty good and local mountains bring excellent opportunities for winter photography. In this photo, I captured a scene that I was endowed with during one of the quick afternoon hikes to Mt. Seymour. The thick fog that was hanging over the mountains caused the hazy aura. The golden light comes from the sun that was trying to peek through this coat of water haze. When I was finalizing work on the composition of this photo an unexpected hiker came to the picture. So I decided to leave that “phantom” in my frame.

I see a man with a beanie on & his three pups herding two baby elephants :), with the ghosts of Christmas past, present & future bringing Ebenezer Scrooge to tell him to protect the elephants. (Yes my mind works in strange ways LOL) Very nice image Artur :)

I like the inclusion of the mystery hiker. The scene benefits from the fog in that the viewer gets to imagine what the rest of the backdrop looks like around the visible elements. Nice soft lighting.

I must confess however that my imagined backdrop isn't quite as fanciful as Darcy's :D

Yep, I think Darcy is on her own here....

What a cool shot Artur! Love the minimalism in this caused by the limited visibility. That stronger light source in the upper right gives the image depth, and that obscured hiker gives the image mystery. Very well done!

Really you guys don't see the two baby elephants up front followed by a gnomish looking guy with his 3 pups behind him & Ebenezer (the real person) with the two ghosts to the right of him & the other behind him? wow, guess that comes from looking at clouds with my mom growing up, I see things! :D And again it is an awesome image!

Perhaps my imagination is a tad more macabre than Darcy’s, but I see a lost hiker, surrounded by previous lost souls. A mystical and emotive image. Superb work.

I like the inclusion of the hiker - give scale & depth. Looks like he/she is returning to our realm after a journey into the realm of phantasm. That cold mist/fog with just enough light coming through is really special. Can you send some of that snow down to Colorado?

Thank you, everybody! I promised to re-title the photo, but I have no clue how to do it. Also, I have just had some gin and now I clealry see that there were elephants :) Have a good week-end!
