For most of my life I thought 'Daddy-long legs' as they are commonly called were just long legged spiders. They are arachnids with 8 legs but they are unrelated to spiders. The fused, oval shaped body, does not have a distinct head and abdomen region, they have one pair of eyes, do not produce venom and do not make silk, as all spiders do.
There are many species with some introduced. I'm still waiting for an ID for this one that was in my Hydrangea yesterday.

How interesting! I was fooled as well. I would have put money down that they were spiders.

And great job on capturing this guy.

i thought they were spiders. learn something new every day. nice details, i've really never looked at these buggers up close.
