I worked as an itinerant pediatric dentist in Nunavut for 3 years as I neared retirement and had the good fortune to travel to several small Inuit communities on Baffin Island. Most of my time and efforts were concentrated in Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut, working in Qikigtani General hospital providing dental surgery in the operating room to children who were referred from their communities. Oral health in Canada's North is atrocious and the need is extreme. Our governments are not serving our nothern population well at all in so many ways - health care, food security, employment, environmental issues, basic necessities of life are all severely lacking.
On the bright side, I had several opportunities to photograph some of the local landscape while living and working in Cape Dorset. This is a view from just outside of town looking across the inlet and the ice pans. C and C welcome.
