On Friday night I ran down to Little Corona Beach in Corona Del Mar California as we had storms coming in and I thought I could catch some nice clouds and maybe a nice sunset. I used this time to also do more work on Timelapses. As most of you will know by now Ben and I are having a blast learning how to do timelapse photography and I think we keep improving little by little.
On the drive there, besides wanting to capture timelapses on 2 of my Nikons, I wanted to put the GoPro Hero 7 Black through some more paces. I came up with this idea of taking both video and timelapse and merging them both into a combo video. Not sure what it would be called? Anyway, as you watch this you will see what I did. I liked the result quite a bit.
Now the GoPro does have some issues and I knew with the sunset the biggest one would be it's lack of dynamic range, so I would have to deal with some blown out areas. I tried to avoid shooting straight into the sun. It was great that the clouds did help to block some of the direct sunlight onto the camera. You will also notice if you look carefully some wide angle distorion occasionally. By default the GoPro shoots an almost fisheye view. I have it selected to not be as wide as that, but there still is some horizon curvature, etc.. I don't think it's too bothersome.
I hope you guys enjoy this one, I think this is a style I can build off of for travel videos, etc..
