Here is a pre-dawn scene from Moraine Lake from the archives. This composition has more of a foreground that many of my others from there, although I wish I'd managed to avoid the large tree on the left. As always, any thoughts are welcome.
This summer, I checked off a "bucket-list" item and visited the Canadian Rockies with my wife. One of the locations I was most excited to visit was iconic Moraine Lake. As expected, it was crowded, but there was plenty of room to move around on the rock pile. This is the first image I...
As much as I liked the clean view of the lake, I thought it was pretty cool with these frost covered reeds in the foreground.
Any thoughts are welcome.
Here's a pano (I think it is 5 portrait 17mm shots) from the view point above upper Johnston Canyon Falls in Banff. I was happy to have the climber for this to add scale. Posting larger than usual so you can see details.
Any thoughts are welcome.
After a dinner in Banff we noticed that the snow had stopped, the clouds had thinned, and the quarter moon was providing some nice light. So what else could we do but head back to Second Vermilion Lake for some night shooting!
Any thoughts are welcome.
This shallow cave (really just an indentation in the canyon wall) is off the main trail in Banff's Johnston Canyon and nicely frames this rock formation.
Any thoughts are welcome.
This was taken at sunrise on the last morning of my recent trip to the Canadian Rockies. It was snowing up the road in Lake Louise, and you can see the dark clouds to the left, but they were breaking up over Castle Mountain. We arrived early and I waited for another car to arrive before I went...
After sunrise I couldn't help myself... I headed over to the docks to grab the iconic shot of the colorful boats in front of this mountain scene.
Any thoughts are welcome.
I've had someone I can't refuse toss the black and white challenge my way. So I decided to process seven images I took in 2017 that I haven't shared before, and make that my B&W story for the year. Here is the first, from a sunrise in Banff at 3rd Vermilion Lake taken in January 2017.
Any...
This was taken in Banff a few years ago, just after an early snowstorm dusted the peaks. I liked the fall colors below transitioning into winter above.
Any thoughts are welcome.
This was taken in January in Banff, at about the same time/location as this one along the Bow River http://www.focalworld.com/index.php?threads/bow-river-snow-bumps.1734/. The beautiful sunrise to the east provided some nice warm light on the mountain to contrast the cold below it.
Any thoughts...
I took this last January, on a morning where I headed out to capture Castle Mountain at sunrise. As nice as that view was, the best light was off to the east so I grabbed my stuff and made the move. I really liked these bumps in the snow and the way they were reflecting some of the light so I...
An autumn morning at Lake Louise in Banff National Park. The trees lining the outlet stream did a really nice job of obscuring the many other people along the shoreline that morning.
Any thoughts are welcome.
I took this in January near the end of a trip to Banff. The weather had warmed up to a nice -20°F. When I arrived at this spot, I found a tour group from Japan along the shoreline. The tour leader was setting up their cameras which were all clicking away on timers. I moved off to the right and...
New photos coming soon, but in the meantime here's one I liked from Second Vermilion Lake in Banff. This was taken at sunset in late September a few years ago.
Any comments are welcome
