How does Windows manage the pagefile when the RAM usage is low?


I have a system with 32 GB of RAM, and I rarely exceed 50% of its capacity. Does Windows still allocate and access the pagefile in this scenario, or does it rely solely on the physical memory?

It will allocate a pagefile regardless. However depending on the usage, it may not need to swap pages in and out. So in your scenario where you are not exceeding 16GB, no paging should happen.
