The Moon with the Tamron 50-400mm

I posted some of my thoughts on it in the Nikon Section. I just got this lens in yesterday and decided to capture the moon with it first. The moon is a bit smaller at 400mm compared to the 600mm I am used to. But it sure seems very sharp. It was shot with the Nikon Z6III.

So this is cropped down a lot, but it's still holding it's details and sharpness pretty well.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

That's a good looking moon to me. Handheld or tripod? Any IBIS at work here? The Tamron tales zooms do seem to be sharpest on their long end.

Thanks Michael!

This is handheld, and yes the Z6III has IBIS so it's a combination of the two.

Today I came across a couple of Bald Eagles in a tree on my way to pick up some of my grandkids from school. I only had about 10 minutes or I would be late to pick them up, but I stopped and grabbed some shots. The images at 400mm are so incredibly sharp. I am really starting to like this lens. The range from 50mm to 400mm really is sweet and opens a lot up to me where I might just keep this lens on permanently.

Yes I'd say an auspicious start for this lens - looks very sharp on the Moon, a tough target to render well with normal camera lenses.

Nice, Jim. I've always wanted to do this but have never got to pointing my lens at the moon. Now that I have a 200-600 I should finally try it with a 1.4x.

Thanks Jeffrey! A 200-600mm will capture the moon really well, and throw on the 1.4x and you will be getting really great detail.
