The Forests Near Lake Quinault

A fall scene along a trail in the rain forest just south of the lodge at Lake Quinault in Olympic National Park. The lodge has a life sized totem like "measuring stick" on the deck to show the yearly rainfall amount as measured in feet that typically ranges from 12-14 feet.

Thanks Michael - the best places for a rejuvenating hike are the ones most people skip. At least back when I took this shot in 2009 the local trails around Lake Quinault were basically empty once you got into late October. I never saw anyone until I got back to the lodge on this particular day.
