Tangled Up in Blue

Apologies to Bob Dylan for the title. This is a view of the Blue Basin in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument from the Overlook Trail. The main trail follows the drainage from the parking area up to the Y intersection of the two small canyons seen in this image. No access is allowed up into the two side canyons below and both are active sites for the park's active fossil research efforts.

C&C always welcome.

It's really interesting how that pocket of blue showed up there. It's too bad about those dead branches in the corners. They do seem to be somewhat subdued which is great, but they still tug at the eye.

What a striking color to this area! Like Ben, I never realized all that was going on at the John Day site either.
