Northern Lights has a Friend

This is from the Super Show of 2025 on November 11, 2025. I didn't shoot many verticals, but I captured this before switching the D850 back to horizontal for it's timelapse.

I think it's kind of cool having the winter Milky Way showing above the lights. It's fainter then the summer MW, but it's still visible.

I think it's a really neat effect and it works well. Too much MW luminance would overwhelm the subject balance between the Aurora and the stars.

Interesting to see the transition from the starry sky to the aurora lights near the horizon. Very nice.

Thanks Alan, it was different for sure. I need to get 1 more camera so I can keep one in vertical. :)

You are establishing a photo niche that is the exact opposite of Ben Horne. He used to spend days scoping out and planning a shot and then go out to take the shot with one plate for his field camera.

Ha ha.... yep, I bet Ben would faint at the thought of taking 20TB of photos in 1 year. o_O
