Blue Penguin/Kororā in Ōamaru

Our town is famous as the blue penguin capital of the world (or at least New Zealand), but they are famously mostly viewable during evening and nighttime. During the day they tend to be out to sea feeding, so imagine my surprise when I was at the foreshore today playing with my new camera and new 100-500mm lens when someone spotted a lonely blue penguin coming in from the water! I was thrilled to be in the right place at the right time with the right gear!

Great shot of this little guy. Wonderful level of detail.

Good choice for a camera/lens to shoot it with as well. Most of the time I leave the 100-500mm on my camera body by default and only take it off when I want to shoot a wide scene.

The 100-500 (and the camera, for that matter) are new to me. I am finding myself using the 100-500 an awful lot, initially out of a desire to try it out and get used to, but I'm really enjoying using it. I can imagine leaving it on my camera much of the time, but then I'll have the issue of carrying around the EF-RF adapter as well as my other lenses, since almost all of them are EF lenses.

All the more reason to keep the 100-500mm mounted :p

I do carry around the RF-EF adapter for my old EF 17-40mm and EF 24 TS-E but I did spring for a RF 24-105/f4.0 so I could do more walkabout shooting. That said I do all of my flower and closeup shots (not macro) with the 100-500mm. I used the 100-500 for the Red Blues shot I just posted today.
