From a late afternoon at Bandon's Coquille Beach while waiting for the sunset:
Good one Alan, lots of stacks in this one.
Very cool Light and Shade!
Why wait for sunset? This is great!
Nicely rendered! Love this image, Alan.
Coquille means shell in French. I guess if you're trying to name a beach and you have an unoriginal idea like Shell Beach you can just translate it into another language and...ta-na! Coquille Beach, sounds way better
French trappers first encountered a Native American population in the general area ranging from Bandon up to Florence and ascribed this name. The tribe was part of Confederated Tribes of Siletz that has a reservation near Florence. There is a river named Coquille that flows into the Pacific at Bandon as well as a small town upstream from Bandon named Coquille. The beach here is just south of a jetty that protects the inlet to the bay formed by the river.
