Last night I saw some flashing coming from the north. I had to go out to investigate. Sure enough, a storm was going by. It was pretty far to the east, but I'm pretty happy with how this came out considering I'm standing in my driveway when I took this. All CC is welcome. Thanks for looking.

I like this point of view for the storm. Glad you stayed up late so we could get to see this.

Congrates! What a great image. It's very captivating how the shelf cloud divides the image into almost two different scenes. Very well captured!

Cool, the stars add a nice touch. We had an unusual for these parts lightening storm Sat. night, but I was too lazy to get out in the rain to drive somewhere to view/shoot it.

A terrific image Brian. I particularly like the light clouds above the dark band where the lightning has illuminated them. One tiny thing, the tree on the horizon seems to have a large radius halo, it may be natural but doesn't look it at this size. Ken

Wow ! Those layers are extraordinary in themselves. The lightening makes it pure magic. Great work.

maybe you stayed up too late for you - but not too late as far as we are concerned! Very awesome shot! Did you use any kind of a lightning trigger for this, or did you just keep the shutter open, or did you just time it up perfectly by luck - uh - I mean - skill? :)

I have been messing with a lightning trigger some, and got some results with it earlier this year, although i think I had my shutter speed too fast and still missed a lot of potential captures.

Ina any case, a wonderful result indeed!

Hey Mike. This was just a 15 second exposure pointed at the storm. Just all dumb luck. I do have a trigger that works well in the day time. I usually just use longer exposures at night.

Thanks Ken. I have no idea what that halo is. There isn’t anything behind that tree for about 1000 miles. I may have to work I that.
