Santander Beach

From a recent holiday in Spain. This is the beach 100 yards from my rented apartment. I went out in the evening light to take some images just as the sun broke through. The light felt magical but the images don't any thoughts appreciated. Ken

I like the scene and the composition, but it seems way to bright for the time of day and the long exposure. I am also wishing that there was not so much foreground water, although I can see why you included it for the continuation of the water action. I need to think about this a bit. I assume it's ok to download and rework it?

And by the way, thanks for posting here, much appreciated.

Ben I have posted it SOOC. I shoot exposed to the right and this often leads to images that appear far too bright so please alter in any way that you see fit. l have not posted my best attempt suffice to say I am not happy with my best. I would crop much of the foreground water and definitely darken. My shadow will appear as you darken. Ken

Ok here are two versions I processed. The first is just a normal processing with the shadow and house cloned out. I converted it in RAW using auto which is often hard to beat. Then I set white and black point in PS, ran a Topaz Exposure sharpened and saved.

The second has Topaz Brilliant Cold applied.

Thank you Ben. We have picked the same crop but you have gone for a much brighter and snappier rendering and I will need to live with it for a while to see if I continue to like them but both have instant appeal. Ken

Hi Ken. This forum does not have a custom of any kind yet, so we can build one. Showing your version is good, you were there and had the advantage of what it looked like. I like your version fine. Mine is simply applying my normal workflow to it.

Just as a matter of interest this image was taken a few minutes earlier before the sun broke through. I would normally have moved a lot closer to the rocks and looked at making them much larger but I really did not wish to get my feet wet as I had only brought one pair of shoes on holiday with me. Early the next day as we were leaving for the airport to fly home this scene was totally transrormed with dark scudding clouds and wave breaking over the far cliffs and soaking the house, removed in this image. As always feel free to download and modify as you see fit. Ken

I didn't get to see this earlier, it's really great to see what Ben did with the original Ken posted. What an amazing transformation, I had to scroll back to the original to see how Ben had gotten that detail out because at first glance it didn't seem like there was that kind of detail hidden in the foreground.

I like Ben's 2nd edit the best, Ben's first and Ken's edit look really similar so I can't pick between them but they both are also good options.

So wanting to start to get more involved here, but have to ask a newbie question first - how do we grab a version of the posted image to edit? Do we just right click and copy image, or is there some other location to get what is posted for editing?

Mike I THINK that you just right click the image it should be 3000px wide. I would like to give access to a reduced size RAW image but can't. Perhaps the vastly increased size of RAW images would cost more to host. Ken

For Lets play I would suggest hosting the file through WeTransfer.com - its free and the file stays - best for Raw files hosting.
