We were staying at the St Mary's Lodge so we had ample opportunity to shoot it, this is my last image from the trip. We went over just before sunset and I made my way down to the lake edge. This is not easy because there is a swamp at the base below the Wild Goose overlook. I bushwhacked my was to the left of the swamp and found this viewpoint which I thought was pretty cool.

Of course I had a naked sky and Wild Goose Island gets lost in the background. Maybe the right side of the swamp would be a better way to include the island but you may miss these neat rocks.

    CC welcome.

I like those rocks Ben! This is really sweet, and the clear skies are not an issue at all.

I like the rocks down in front and the low view of the lake makes the peaks in the distance seem much farther away than the usual views.

Clouds would definitely help this scene but they can be difficult to order up when you need them :D

I like the rocks too, Ben. I have been to St. Mary's Lake many times. In fact, I taught a field course in geology there every three years of my teaching career. That would make eleven times just for that and even went a couple of more times on my own.

Thanks for bringing back some great memories for me, Ben.

Thanks Jim, next time you are there, wander down the trail and look for some side trails when you get to the swamp.

Thanks Alan, this is a place that called for my 11-24 lens at 11mm.

That's a bunch of times, I have been there maybe 4-5 times over the years. It was a much easier trip when I lived in Spokane. I left east glacier around 5:00 AM to get Rick to the Missolua Airport for his flight to Dallas, and it was 8:30 when I arrived in American Fork. But it was well worth it.

Its a view worth checking out next time you are there.
