I think my most creative work is when i do these last minute unplanned 24 hour trips. The more i put into planning, more disappointing it is. IMO social media screws with your head because now you are looking at other peoples work and want to do something similar and then you realize how much stupid manipulation they did (creating composites). I have found myself in that situation last couple of times.

This one is from back in 2017..i left LA at midnight on the Dec 30th, got there around 4 AM, napped for 30 minutes...shot this sunrise...napped...shot sunset at badwater...and was back home at 9 PM on the 31st to head to NYE party.

    Let me know your thoughts...

I like the light angle on the dunes - sweet color palette with some nice dune contours. I don't normally like footprints in sand shots but for some reason these seem to invite me to follow them and make a neat visual lead-in to the scene.

I honestly prefer going somewhere to shoot with no clue what someone else did there. I can see my own compositions in the landscape more clearly without the fog of trying to replicate someone else's shot.

Sunny this beautiful, and I am not a big fan of sand but I love this one. I know what you mean about trying to get the same shot somebody else took. Seems like all I do.

I'm with you Sunny. There's really nothing like "being there". Even the best images are only a sampling of the real thing. This is beautiful -- it really conveys that feeling. Nicely done.

Beautiful colors & textures, Sunny. I agree with you in that it's better to not plan to imitate somebody else's vision. I think it's much better to go & sense what's happening for you instead of being clouded by old images. I think of it in yoga terms: Breathe in, breathe out: breathe in the whole Gestalt and breathe it out through your photographs.

I'm with Alan in that I usually prefer scenes without footprints, but these bring in the human scale & make it more inviting.

This is really cool Sunny! Like most everyone else, this is one of those rare times where the footprints in the sand actually work. So congrats on that one! :)

You sure got some sweet color in the sky to go along with those great dunes.

Social Media tends to be a curse more then it's a blessing it seems. Sadly so many are creating fake photos with their composites and then not saying a word about how fake they are and just passing them off for real unless they get called on it. In my opinion people can do whatever they want with their photography and their creativity, but if a photo is fake and doesn't represent reality then I think it should be called Digital Art, or at the very least just be open about how fake it is.
