We went down to San Diego to go visit a large Christmas store they have there and I made sure to bring my camera along as I was hoping that afterwards a visit to La Jolla for sunset would work out. And it did. :)

This is in the Hospital Reef area, it's a very cool area with lot's of rocks, cracks, holes, etc.. In this shot, it was simply the rush of the water was turning back out on itself as it splashed. Shooting these wave splashes is one of the things I love so much about the beach, and when they waves start to spout or splash back like this it's a whole different level of excitement for me.

It was an evening of endless possibilities, where of the 900 photos I shot, so far the smallest I could prune it down to was 70 of my favorites.... There were these types of wave splashes, there was a woman who had these translucent butterfly wings that she looked like a fairy along the edge of the reed, then there was some really insane colors as the sun was setting. So far, my biggest problem has been trying to choose which ones to process.

    All comments are welcome,

    Jim

You had some really nice side lighting for that session. I like the sunset hue to the palette for the splash highlights.

I have a rather large collection of splash shots from the Oregon coastline so can easily relate to your plight in whittling the list down to a small group of favorites.

Hey Ben, thanks! I am working on a few now with the woman with the butterfly wings. It is something so different from what I normally see at the beach I am looking forward to seeing them.

This is such an interesting image, Jim. I love the color palate and that splash is perfect. I'm looking forward to seeing the butterfly lady.
