Johnny Behind the Rocks is a little park area I stumbled across a few weeks back in Wyoming. I was up in the Tetons with Ben, Rick and Alan and I knew I wanted to be in Colorado the next day in time to pick up the grandkids from school, so instead of leaving after sunrise the following morning (in which the guys got some awesome sunrise shots at Oxbow) and I headed out that evening to get a couple of hours down the road to Colorado.

So a little before sunrise caught me passing by this oddly named place and I caught a glimpse of a small cool rock formation. So I made a U turn and seeing the clouds in the sky decided to wait a few minutes for sunrise here. And I was not disappointed. I ended up shooting there for about an hour that morning as I explored the place a bit more, and took the time to shoot a short Travel Video of it also as I am starting to work on a series of travel videos for FocalWorld.

And in the end, I still made it to my daughters with about 20 minutes to spare and I got to go pick the grandkids up from school. :)

    All comments are welcome,

    Jim

PS. I have no idea why it's named Johnny Behind the Rocks. I googled it thinking there had to be a real interesting story, but I couldn't find anything that discussed the origin of the name.

I was just about to ask about the name when I read that you had already tried to figure it out. Oh well. Very nice sunrise and a nice looking little place to shoot it from.

Well I guess you made the right choice here in spite of missing Oxbow. Great color and a very different and unique scene. Hundreds got Oxbow that morning, but maybe only you got this one, plus nothing beats grand kids.

That's a very nice image Jim, especially with the clouds. I like to take the alternate routes for precisely this reason.

Love the name as well, probably because if you've been on a long ride -- your choice is right there in the open (with some photographer driving by), or heading for the rocks.
