I spent Thanksgiving with my family in Maui (yeah, tough life) and made the trek to the top of Haleakala for sunrise early in the trip. Here's the first photo I processed from that morning, taken along the Sliding Sands trail. This is both a focus stack to get everything sharp and an exposure blend to control the dynamic range.

    Any thoughts are welcome!

Nice results from your stacking efforts - great control of the light and the depth of focus in the scene makes it feel like it goes on forever.

Hey Kyle, now that's something to be thankful for! A trip to Hawaii.

I like this a lot, a great job with the processing and the look. I like those rocks in the lower left of the foreground. I would suggest as an alternative crop to try and see if it's an improvement would be to crop up from the bottom to lose that one rock that is really sun lit along the bottom. I think it pulls the eye out of the frame.

The temperature here hasn't been above freezing for about a week and you post images of Hawaii!. Lovely but I would be tempted to take secateurs to the green shrub extreme left. Ken

Excellent work with a beautiful scene. Not sure I agree with Jim on loosing the bright rock, perhaps just tone it down a bit. I do agree with Ken on the shrub though.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I was wondering about the green shrub and since a couple of you called it out I'll probably kill it. I'll keep the rock for now but will tone it down some.

I'm torn about this one, Kyle. It's perfectly balanced with the foreground rocks, but the main interest is everything beyond them. Do you have other compositions from there?
