The previous evening at the Bisti was characterized by dramatic clouds , nice light.........and howling wind. I was pretty sure I wouldn't be taking my camera out of my pack, but I figured the pack would weigh me down & keep me from blowing away. Even if I'd been able to keep my stove lit, each bite would have been half grit and half food. At best. So I ran away to spend the night in a room in Farmington. Didn't even bother getting up early as MeteoBlue said that the skies would be totally clear at sunrise. So, what to do in the Bisti with cloudless skies mid-morning to midday?

This is for the moderator who's been trying to get me to do more of these kinds of shots......

My first impulse when I saw my dog in the frame was to edit her out, but then I decided I liked her in there. Let me know what you think. Or a tighter crop in general?

Hard to find comps in the Bisti with no clouds and flat light - your solution worked out quite well. I think I slightly prefer the first one with the tiny hints of clouds and just a hint more contrast than the second and third images.

You cloud go a bit smaller with the crop but I like the scene as is with the nice depth of field you have in the frame.

    Awesome work Monika!

B&W works great here. I think the human body plays well among those hoodoo's at Bisti. My favorite I think is #3, though something has happened to it, it's not showing up at the moment.

I think having your dogs head in the shot is awesome. At first it bothered me a hair, but the more I looked, the more I liked it. It adds a silent observer feel to this.

The person in the frame is great for scale. Having never been there, I thought the formations were larger than they are. I like the dog.

I've re-uploaded it. Who knows what happened to the original post?

There are some much larger formations, as well as much smaller ones.

I'll bump the contrast in the other 2. Thanks, Alan.
