I have been producing this image for a photo contest, interestingly being judged by the president of the Photographic Society of America. More "arty" than most of what you have seen from me. Taken in the middle of May on the South coast of Britanny in France. The colours reminded of the paintings of David Hockney, I don't know if he is famous in the USA despite living there for the last 30 years. I used the images generated during this trip to produce an article for the Royal Photographic Society about producing landscape images with almost no features. This part of France has huge flat beaches with few rocks or offshore islands, here I used a small stream and the differences that this produced in the wave patterns to try and generate some foreground interest and the small catamaran and cloud with the implication that they will move into the space but this may well be meaningless psychobabble and "Emperors new clothes". Comments more than welcome Ken

I love it Ken! Great minimalism or at least simplification. Very nice work here, and it’s great to get a little educated too. The name David Hockney sounds familiar but I couldn’t have picked out any of his paintings. I will for sure google him later though.

I like the minimalism of this and it does make an otherwise featureless beach work as a comp. I do look for any kind of stream crossing a beach when I encounter endless sand and they can be a gold mine for comps if they aren't covered with footprints. You used this one well to lead my eyes to the sailboat. Nice colorful sails makes the boat stand out more.

I like it. I see many layers of interest for the sand on the beach leading up to the boat and clouds. Well seen and executed.
