An Image That Launched A Logo

So as many of you are already aware, Iceland is a truly special place for any of us who love to shoot landscapes. My wife and I took advantage of a 3 day stayover when flying back home form a trip to Austria, and while it was far too little time to spend there, it did kindle a strong desire to get back there someday. The weather was not the best for much of the visit, with the sun just managing to poke through the clouds infrequently the first 2 days.

This image is from Þingvellir National Park, a shot of Lake Þingvallavatn, the largest lake in Iceland. Many of you who are probably already tired of seeing my biz card/logo/signature thingie at the end of any post will probably recognize this view as the backdrop for that. It is a cropped pano of the lake for the few seconds when some sun managed to peek out. I like this view quite a bit, and was very excited when I saw what my artist wife was able to do with it for making me a logo.

Anyway, independent of all that, another magical place in a country chock full of magical places.

Comments and critiques welcome (definitely helped by clicking through to the full size version in the gallery...)

Very sweet Mike! That’s neat to see the source of your logo.

I understand what you are saying about Iceland, I am hoping to get there for the first time in June.

Yes, I know I say this type of thing a lot, but for any landscape shooters out there who have the means to do so you simply HAVE to go to Iceland. The old saying that "Greenland should have been called Iceland, and Iceland should have been called Greenland' is totally true, or at least when we visited in July it was. And if you go in the summer, well, let's just say the Golden Hour is many hours long - it is easy to lose track of time as you run around shooting stuff in magical light that seems to last forever.

When we went it was as a layover on a flight back from Austria. At that time (and I would be surprised if they are not still doing it) Icelandic Air had a deal that if you flew with them to Europe, you could layover either coming or going in Iceland for a few days without affecting the cost of your airfare. And at least at that time, their fares to other locations in Europe were actually cheaper than many other carriers anyway. Pretty smart on their part.

But next time we go it will be with Iceland as our primary destination, as we barely scratched the surface in the 3 days we spent there.

I love the rain/mist obscuring the distant hills along with the shimmer on the closer water. I might try cropping off the top bright clouds, which draw the eye away from the lower show.

Thanks for the input Jim, I will have to play with that and see what it looks like!
