I had to Zag

Well, this rock was zigging so I had to go zagging. :)

This is from 8 years ago at Death Valley at the Race Track. At the time there was the occasional rock being moved or replaced, but it wasn't too common as it is now where I would guess less the 10% of the rocks are on their original tracks.

This was sunset, and it was nice to see the clouds pick up some color.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

There are some beautiful colours in the clouds Jim it’s great when they materialise at sunset. The rock fits nicely into the foreground with its track leading back into the scene making a stunning image.

I like the track pattern - most of the images I have seen from that location feature straight lines. Nice to have some sunset colors for the scene as well.

Nice light on the playa and clouds Jim. Didn’t get a chance to visit this part of DV on my lone visit there.

You got some nice conditions, Jim. It's sad how the Racetrack has gotten so abused in the last several years, between people taking the rocks & walking on the playa when wet. It's nice to see it in it's better days.

Yeah, these patterns where they have the angle in the track from the change of direction of the rock has always drawn me in.

This is beautiful Jim. When I was there a couple weeks ago and had the 70 mph winds you can hardly stand upright let alone set a camera down on a tripod and photograph.

Bob, did you know that the minimum wind velocity for a hurricane is 74 MPH because that is the velocity that most people can no longer remain standing. Thus, I am not surprised you had trouble standing up.

It is really a shame what the troglodytes living in our society today do to destroy as much as they can. They were doing the same things back in the late 1960's when I was doing studies of the rock movements on the Race Track Playa. There just weren't as many of them back then because not so many people knew about this incredible place. This is a very nice image, Jim. It brings back a lot of memories for me.

Thanks Bob. I have been out there like that, I know just how wicked the wind can be.
