When Monika and I started shooting off Trail Ridge Road in RMNP on Sunday night for the stars and Milky Way, I set up initially to shoot with the moon at my back to light up the hills and ridges opposite it. There was still some clouds in the sky which I was really liking, but they ended up disappearing rather quickly. It was like the sky went from mostly cloudy to clear in almost no time.
The tip of the hill on the left was being lit up still with that last gasps of the moon. I chose this one because I watched as the moonlight rose up the hillside and I liked when it got to this position and just lit up that tip.

Jim
