Big Water in Big Creek

From my Spring 2018 trip. Edited because I am headed back this weekend, and can't wait! I was also playing around with Camera Matching profiles in LR. I know I will lose a couple folks with the 2 second exposure but for me, that look is exactly what I was going for on this one due to the amount of water flowing over this spot, slower meant too much texture and visual noise for the scene that is already overly busy and full of textures.

Will probably have a memory card full of water images when we get back!

Hey Travis, as a shorter shutter speed shooter with water I do still shooting longer shutter speeds too sometimes, so I can appreciate when the longer shutter speed works out like this.

And you make a good point about how the longer shutter speed look can remove distractions visually.

You certainly didn't lose me with the shutter speed. There are waterways that work very well with faster speeds for the water textures but it's the woods and the patchy light that draw the viewer into this scene.

Yeah, the danger is getting stuck doing only one thing, or seeing it only one way...I try to keep an open mind and shoot each scene in a range of shutter speeds, and have actually found that I like blending multiples speeds together for one image!

Glad you didn't get lost on it Alan! I agree, the woods and light are the textures here, and its the water passing through that doesn't need the textures. Thanks!

Well IMHO you should let the 2sec. exposure a chance because the water in my opinion is rather flat and begging for some details but it just me.

Good one Travis
Thanks Ben.

Beautiful shot
Thank you Joe.

Like I said, I figure its not the preference for most...but for this shot it was my preference. I understand the desire to maybe see more texture in the water, but for me it just complicated the image too much.

Nice feeling of movement in this one !
Thanks David, I like trying to put some movement in.

I like this, Travis. I don't have any hard fast rules for the water texture because I don't want to get trapped in a single mindset.
