I'm thinking seriously of buying this lens as my walk-around for an upcoming trip to Europe this spring. If anyone on the forum gets one please come here to give your thoughts and post shots. Thanks.

I don’t pay much attention to Ken Rockwell, but I read Petapixel’s reviews. I saw this one and was waiting to see some other reviews. I travel a little and the 24-105 is a nice focal length for travel.

I had a Canon 24-105 for years and gave it to my grandson after I bought the Canon 2.8 24-70ii a couple of years ago. The later is notably sharper and better indoors. Makes me hesitant with regard to the Sony 24-105 now that I’m slowly switching over to the Sony system.

If you get one, let us know what you think.

Mine should arrive Tues. I'll take it out for some test shots Wed. and let everyone know how mine works.

Hey Jim, it's always fun to get a new lens, and this will be one that if it's sharp and works for you could be well used. I look forward to your thoughts once you get it.

I got it yesterday, haven't had time to get out and about with it yet, but it passed the bookshelf test for being off axis and the first few outdoor shots around the house look very sharp. Noticeable vignetting at 24mm even with lens corrections turned on in ACR. It's a keeper though and will be my workhorse in the desert in March.

This one has been worked on in Photoshop:

Sony has issued a recall to repair some with certain serial numbers. Mine is working fine, and not in that batch. Finally got out to shoot a few today on my crutches. My favorite tree in my backyard.

I've uploaded a large file to show off the lens, processed to taste with my normal sharpening applied. F14 1/30, 42mm

Nice photo. Lens Rentals has done a nice review of this lens. I think I'm going to pick one up for a travel lens.......

The FE 24-105/4 is a great walk around lens. Sharp, good colors, good contrast . . . a real bargain for the money. I don't hesitate to use it where I might otherwise use a prime lens. I previously had the FE 24-70/2.8 and sold it for this lens. I don't miss the f/2.8 (I have faster primes) and prefer the extra reach.

I've now been using mine over the summer, but only taken it out for an extended hike recently. Perfect lens for me (although in a perfect world my camera lens combo would be much smaller & lighter). These were all taken at Sand Point, Olympic National park.

Happy with mine. Bought one prior to going over seas for three weeks and a trip to Alaska. Have about 15,000 shots on it and it’s worked out well. Good range of focal lengths make it very versatile for a travel lens.
